Highly
figured wood is a favorite choice for furniture maker Judy Kalinowski. “I
look for unusual curl or texture in wood to make a piece distinctive and
one-of-a-kind. I had never seen this kind of curl in white oak when I was
perusing lumber stacks. I bought it because I couldn’t not buy it. It
stood in my stash a long time before I knew what I wanted to do with it. I
wanted to show it off – it deserved the best exposure I could offer. This
room divider is the result. I feel that way about all the furniture I
make.”

“Sometimes very clean lines appeal to me. But to make the piece
distinctive, the table top doesn’t rest on the legs, giving it a feeling
of floating.” Asian style sofa table Pictured in cherry 16” x 54”

“This sofa or wall table has a lot more design elements going on,
from the cloudlift backsplash to the double round over on the legs and
rungs. It also has a secret compartment. (Shouldn’t everyone have at least
one piece of furniture with one?)"
